Street Art truly started in New York during the graffiti boom. During the peak of the boom in 1980, a group of people decided to tag the whole subway system such as the cars, the hallways and the stations of the subway. This triggered the beginning of a new process. Many artists realized that art didn't have to be enclosed in museums and galleries. They would be able to use the city as their own canvas. They also realized that many people appreciated the art done in the subway. Therefore, the development of a new art movement would be well accepted by society.
